The question is not if CO2 emissions should be reduced, but how. Are nuclear power and clean coal technology sustainable methods of supplementing oil and gas? Nuclear power leaves behind hazardous waste for future generations, and clean coal technology pumps CO2 in to the ground, with unknown consequences. Energy produced by coal and nuclear power also requires large amounts of clean water, which is already a scarce resource.

The world must prepare to use other forms of energy in addition to conventional energy sources in the future. Finding new oil deposits do not change the fact that oil (and other fossil fuels) will at some point run out. We need to think about sustainable alternatives now if we are to continue to meet the world’s increasing energy consumption and to stop the dramatic climate changes we are experiencing. We have a choice, but we don't have the time to wait.
Over 200 barrels of oil per year are needed to match a single Verdegía 39 kW solar engine
In terms of reducing CO2 emissions, solar engine systems are the currently the cleanest and best option. There is an unlimited supply – and it’s free. In addition, substantial capacity can be built up quickly, offering the energy independence demanded by the world's largest and fastest-growing economies.
Verdegía expects that the present solar engine share of about one per cent of global power consumption will grow to at least 10 per cent by 2020. The targets for renewable power in the EU and China will account for 20 per cent and 15 per cent, respectively, in 2020, and the US is expected to adopt similar targets. These targets mean that installed capacity is set to rise, which translates into annual growth of more than 20 per cent.
